Adventure Based Counselling

Inter-Action is sponsoring Inter-Action Adventure Based Counselling (ABC); a not-for-profit incorporated association which began programmes in 2009.  

ABC is an incorporated community organisation formed in 2008 to provide adventure based counselling programs to the young people of NE NSW.

Vision:

Groups of young people in the Northern Rivers region focus on their growth, resilience and connectedness by undertaking outdoor adventure

 

Mission:

To provide adventure based counseling services to organisations and communities

Aims:

  • Work in partnership with relevant youth services, communities and young people to improve the quality of life and resilience for disadvantaged and at-risk youth.
 

Objectives:

  • To partner with agencies and services which provide therapeutic counselling for young people
  • To assist communities to use outdoor adventure to connect with and mentor their young people
  • To promote the benefit of and achieve best practice in Adventure Based Counselling
  • To conduct Adventure Based Counselling for young people within the limits of IA ABC's counselling ability
 

Client Group

Young people who:

  • Want help making positive changes in their lives
  • Are supported by a youth service or community organisation
  • Have made a commitment to change (part of the intake assessment)
  • Have the ability to change

Program

ABC has one active program called Recre8, which is 12 days long and designed for teenagers almost as a Rite of Passage.  Other programs are planned however funding is insufficient for them to become active at this stage.
